Italy Itinerary-2 weeks

We spent 2 weeks in Northern Italy! Planning this trip was very overwhelming and we were unsure how long to spend in each city, so I hope this helps give you some insight if you're planning your own trip!

Here you will find our basic itinerary. If you'd like to hear more about each city specifically I will link the articles in as I write them, as well as changes I'd make if I were to do it again and things I learned!

For starters, we took the train. Knowing which station to use was complicated at first because they names don't always match the city as we all it in English and/or there are multiple stations to choose from.

We flew into Milan and went straight to Lake Como for 2 nights. We took the train from the Airport to Como Lago. Airport transfer tickets are not part of the Eurail pass if you have one but you can easily buy your ticket at the airport upon arrival!

Como Lago is lake Como's train station and this city is actually called COMO, if you are staying somewhere like Bellagio or Tremezzo you will take the ferry from here. I was very confused initially because I kept seeing Instagram videos about 'Visiting Lake Como' or 'Things to do in Lake Como' but now I realize they were ON Lake Como but not in the city of Como...those places have other names.

Next we went to Verona for 3 nights. This required taking the train from Como Lago to Porta Nuova and purchasing a reserved seat since it was a high speed train (despite having the Eurail Pass, this is additional).

I personally think 3 nights here was too long, I would rather have stayed in Como another night and explored the other cities around the lake...now we know! Read more about our Verona trip in a separate article, but in short... We ended up doing a day trip to Venice and Lake Garda from Verona since we felt we had seen the city thoroughly.

From Verona to Venice you take the Porta Nuova train to Venise S. Lucia (there are two stations listed for Venice, this one goes onto the island, the other will leave you on mainland). Certain times require seat reservations, so book wisely!

From Verona we went to Cinque Terre for 2 nights- taking the train from Verona Porta Nuova to Riomaggiore, specifically. This requires you to connect in Milan, so depending on your plans you could walk around for a few hours and check out Milan! Cinque Terre, another confusing location due to social media lack of clarity, is actually just the region and there are smaller cities specifically to see in this area- similar to Lake Como. We chose Riomaggiore but others include Monterosso, La Spezia, and. Vernazza to name some popular ones.

Next up, a one night stop in Florence for wine and the home of Gucci! Train from Riomaggiore to Firenze Campo Marte, there are two stations here, this was closest for us. The other is Firenze SMN.

We ended up departing from Florence from the second station I mentioned because of where our wine tour ended and headed for our final destination...ROME!

We stayed in Rome for 5 nights and arrived by train from Firenze SMN to Roma Termini. Again, there are many stations but this was nearest our hotel.
