Steamboat Springs, CO

Updated: Oct 22, 2023

We have just returned from my first trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado and the weather was AMAZING! We were there from Jan 7-12 and while the temp. was below freezing, it wasn't windy or wet so it was enjoyable and beautiful....with the right clothes/layers of course!

Our flight was directly into Hayden, so we had a short drive from the airport to our hotel which we booked a private bus for. I would recommend booking a shuttle in advance because there is honestly a lot of price gouging and lack of availability since it is such a small area and high demand.

The condos we stayed at were through Vacasa and right on the mountain! The location is called Kutuk and inside was a cabin style condo with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and living room with a dining table and pull-out couch. There is also a balcony, locker to leave snowboards on overnight, and hot tub!

In the morning to get to the mountain you walk about 1-2 minutes outside your room and across the street where you can get your board on and head right down to the gondola! When you are done for the day there is a run the cuts off early and you can snowboard through what is similar to a sidewalk all the way back to the room, it was AMAZING!

As far as food goes, we picked up groceries since there was a full kitchen but we did eat at the Talay Thai restaurant as well as Los Locos Mexican restaurant (which is right at the bottom of the slope!) and they were both DELICIOUS! Highly recommend!

P.S. I purchased new boots and bindings as well as snow pants and jacket for this trip and I am so glad I did! I hadn't purchased gear since I was in the 8th grade...can you believe that?! It finally wore out so I got the Burton Step-on bindings and boots. THESE ARE AMAZING! You really just step-on the binding pad and the boots clip in on each side of the toe and the heel as well, I felt completely secure while riding and got the hang of how to clip in and out withing the first few runs. As a snowboarder, those flat spots are brutal but with these bindings I just lifted the release, skated through the flat spot, and when I had enough speed I didn't have to stop and clip back in! I just stepped on and rode down! The boots kept my toes warm all day too which is incredible because my fingers and toes are usually ALWAYS cold. And of course, my matching pants and jacket from 'Dope' were not only warm but easy for my group to spot on the mountain!
